The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has strongly condemned the massacre that occurred in parts of Kwara State, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.
Naija News reports that jihadists reportedly attacked the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on Tuesday night, killing scores of residents.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the villages, opened fire on locals, and set several homes ablaze.
By Thursday night, the death toll from the attack was said to have risen to about 200.
In a condolence message personally issued in Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan lamented the recurring bloodshed across the country, noting that it has reached an intolerable level.
She called on governments at all levels to take firm and decisive steps to put an end to the activities of bandits and other criminal elements.
The senator expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and the affected communities, warning that the continued attacks pose a serious threat to national peace and stability.
“The persistent killings of innocent Nigerians are unacceptable and deeply troubling. My heart goes out to the families who have been plunged into grief by these senseless acts,” she said.
“Protecting lives and ensuring justice must be non-negotiable. The safety of our citizens should always be the highest priority of government.” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.
She also emphasized the need for coordinated and effective security strategies to confront the growing insecurity across the country.
According to her, a swift and transparent investigation into the Kwara attacks is essential to ensure accountability and restore public confidence.
“Those responsible for these attacks must be identified and brought to justice without delay. Impunity only emboldens criminal elements and deeps the suffering of our people.
“These killings underscore the urgent need for a more effective and people-centred security architecture. Our communities deserve to live without fear,l and government at all levels must rise to this responsibility,” she added.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for policies and interventions aimed at strengthening security and protecting lives across Nigeria.
